THE FIRST VIETNAMESE DEAF PRESENTER AT THE WORLD CONGRESS OF THE WORLD FEDERATION OF THE DEAF
Let’s recap the significant events from the recent conference with #PARDVietnam:
Ms. Nguyen Tran Thuy Tien, Director of PARD, excelled in various presentations and was chosen as a speaker at the World Congress WFD 2023. Ms. Thuy Tien and Ms. Phanita – President of Association For The Deaf – left a profound impression on the audience regarding the developmental journey of the deaf community across three countries: Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, through the #DeafLoud project led by deaf individuals.
During the meeting with Mrs. Akie Abe, spouse of Mr. Shinzo Abe, the former Prime Minister of Japan, and President Roberta Cordano of Gallaudet University, Ms. Thuy Tien, the sole former recipient of the World Deaf Leadership scholarship in the room, had the opportunity to converse and capture commemorative photos with Mrs. Akie Abe. Mrs. Akie Abe also conveyed her consistent support for the deaf community and the promotion of sign language accessibility for all during the meeting.
PARD Vietnam initiated and fortified relationships with Deaf Associations and organizations from various countries such as Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and the UK, to provide more opportunities for the deaf community in Vietnam in the future.
Lastly, after years of deliberation, the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) officially unveiled a distinctive flag symbolizing the deaf community – Deaf Flag.
